Shanghai, literally "above sea" home to more than 18 million is the largest city of the People's Republic of China. Split in two by the Huangpu River, the older town rests on the west side and Pudong- vibrant and contemporary is on the east. The Bund, the city's waterfront boulevard allows visitors to take in the city's colonial, historical architecture while offering a contrasting view of modern Pudong on the other side of the river. Shanghai is truly a unique mix of East, and West having been dubbed at one time, the "Paris of the East" and today thrives on a robust economy.
